What is Live In Pet Sitting?
Our live-in pet sitting service is a way for you to ensure someone is with your cat and/or dog almost constantly while you’re away. One of us – Wayne or Jeff – will stay in your home with your pets. We will live in your home as if it were our own, bringing our own food, and accessing only those areas you wish us to live in. This allows your pets to stay on their same routine and have constant companionship, rather than a pet sitter stopping in a couple times each day.
Most pet sitters only stop by their clients’ homes few times per day for short visits to care for pets. Our service is distinctly different, and there will be days that we don’t leave your home at all, unless we’re walking your dog. Other days, we might have to leave for groceries or other personal errands. But we will never be gone for more than 4 hours in any one 24-hour period.
Wayne and Jeff are the only Pet Daddies, and it will be one of us staying with your pets – sometimes both. You’re welcome to request one of us specifically, but our availability depends on our schedule.
Before You Leave: The Meet & Greet
Prior to providing any overnight pet sitting service, we will get together for a Meet & Greet. During this meeting we’ll get to know each other, walk through your home, and meet your pets. We’ll also go over all the details about your pets and home and fill out the necessary paperwork. This is also a chance for you to ask us any questions you have about our services.
What to Have Ready for the Meet & Greet
Before your stay begins, we’ll need to know:
- Where your pet’s food, leashes, crates, beds, and any cleaning supplies are kept
- Any health issues, quirks, or favorite hiding spots we should know about
- Your veterinarian’s name, phone number, and address
- That you’ve let your vet know you’ll be away and that we’re authorized to bring your pet in if there’s an emergency
- House keys and any alarm codes
- Home instructions for heat and/or AC, and more
- Where we will sleep and what rooms and amenities we will have access to while staying with your pets
What Your Pet’s Day is Like
We keep your pet’s routine as close to normal as possible including the same feeding times, walks, and playtime if that’s part of their day. And regarding nighttime, some pet owners allow their pets on the bed, while others don’t. The same goes for getting on furniture. We are happy to continue whatever the norm is for your pets. When we’re not actively caring for your pets, we’re simply at home with them: reading, watching TV, or otherwise keeping them company.
Staying in Touch
We can send daily updates by text, including photos, so you know how your pets are doing while you’re away. When we have our Meet & Greet we can talk about how you’d like to receive updates. And, of course you’re welcome to call or text us anytime.
How We Handle Pet Emergencies
If we notice your pet isn’t feeling well, we’ll contact you right away to let you know what’s going on and how you’d like us to handle it. The exception is if we believe your pet is in a life-or-death emergency. In that case, our first priority will be to get your pet to your veterinarian as soon as possible. Once we get there, we’ll contact you to let you know so you can talk with the veterinarian and give us further instructions. Our first choice of veterinarian is your personal vet. If they’re not available we’ll take your pet to an emergency clinic.
Looking After Your Home
Besides caring for your pets, we will provide basic household services. This might include bringing in your mail, watering plants, and taking out the trash. If there’s anything else you’d like handled while you’re away, we’ll go over it during the Meet & Greet.
Coming Home
We’ll coordinate around your return time, either wrapping up and heading out shortly before you get home, or staying to greet you when you arrive, whichever you prefer. We will also ensure your home is in the same condition as when you left.
